THE CALL OF GOD

Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us.

LUKE 1:1 (NLT)

Do you remember your first introduction to the gospel, to the words written in the Bible, or to a revelation of the Bible? To learn and to know something we must first be introduced to it. I did not know much at all about God until I was a young adult. Some of you may have been attending church since a child; what a blessing that must have been for you. No matter the timing, you had to be told in some form or another. I think we dismiss what a wonderful opportunity and call we are given; to tell others of the hope and faith we have in God. To not only tell others but to let them know that our God is a loving God full of mercy and grace. There are many gods in this world, but only one true God and he is a God of love. Unfortunately, too many people think he is a God full of anger, who is harsh, and unforgiving. This is why it is so important for us to tell others about his goodness and kindness.

I had never read the Bible growing up. No one spoke of God in my household to me. The only Bible I had seen was in the hands of my cousin who had told me she never read it because she was told that only a priest could understand it. Seeing a book on a table I picked it up and started reading the first chapter called Genesis. When I finished reading that chapter, I was in total awe and excitement. I excitedly asked if anyone else had read this or heard this message. They all looked at me in disbelief, but not the way I expected. It was all old news to them. If it had not been for those who ‘set out to write accounts’ as Luke said, I would not have heard this word of God spoken to me in this way. We do not have to be an evangelist, a pastor, or a scholar to tell others who our God is. We represent God in our lives every day. What do our lives say about him?

Ever since that day, I have felt a call to tell others about this God of love; for me, the call is in my writings or my poems. I cannot be silent, the call to say something is too strong. I hope I have represented God in the right way. I hope I have

encouraged and spoken the truth. I am thankful to all those in my life who have spoken to me the words of truth, who have guided me in my journey, and who did something as simple and wonderful as to give me a ride to church. I feel fully blessed by God and by you all. For all of you who feel the call, keep going. I find it so wonderful to find your messages of hope in my life. It is a pickup and comfort to know others love God as I do. What is God whispering to you? He led me here today. I hope I can guide you in the right direction as well.

Prayer

Merciful God of love, you amaze me every day. I feel it is such an honour and privilege to be able to get to know you. I hope this journey never ends. Thank you, God, for loving us so much. Guide us in this journey to tell others of your love for them. I praise you in the name of Jesus! Amen.
