Coming Events to Diarise:
Monthly Day of Prayer & Fasting – 8 March 2025
Pastoral Conference: 20-23 March 2025
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Greetings in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
One of the greatest misunderstandings of grace is that we don’t have to do anything because grace is free. God distributes his blessings equally to everyone. Even when God rewards a person, he rewards everyone equally. There is no extra reward for those who work harder.
There is even a parable of Jesus where workers received the same wage regardless of how many hours they worked. However, when we think of God in this way we create a caricature of God that misrepresents who he is. The truth is: God is a God who rewards.
The Triune God we read about in scripture describes himself that way: “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” (Jer. 17:10)
God is not mocked. No evil deed goes unpunished, and no good deed goes unrewarded. In fact, the writer of Hebrews says that anyone who comes to God by faith “must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Heb. 11:6)
Jesus himself promised that when he returns with his angels, “he shall reward every man according to his works” (Matt. 16:27). Paul reiterated that principle in Romans when he said “God will repay each person according to what they have done.” (Rom. 2:16)
My prayer for this week is that we may all come to realise that “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Amen
