Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Greetings in the name of the Triune God revealed in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As we enter the third month of 2026, I want to remind you that March is the GCI Southern Africa anniversary month. The first church service was held on the 9th of March 1963 in Johannesburg, with 33 people in attendance. However, anniversaries are not just about the past.
When we celebrated the 60th anniversary in 2023, I mentioned that the celebration was not so much about the last 6 decades, but more about the 7th decade that we were entering. What history will be told about GCI Southern Africa for the decade ending in 2033? Each year that passes, we are either writing history, or we are leaving behind blank pages with no history.
One of this week’s scripture passages is Genesis 12 about the Call of Abraham. “Go from your country, … to the land I will show you.” (v1) In this call, God was about to start a history of the people of Israel which still continues today. God led Abraham into the unknown. Where is God leading us in the next 10 years? Where is God leading you in the next 10 years?
Before this year goes too far, we need to be reflecting on the plans for 2026. How are they progressing? What history is being written?
My prayer for this week is that as we journey through the 7th decade of GCI in Southern Africa we keep asking ourselves: Where is God leading us? Like Abraham, may we take the first step to go to the land (future) that God wants to take us. Amen!
