A friend of mine was recently involved in a car accident, but luckily nobody got hurt and he only had a few scrapes and bruises. After the accident he became depressed and was considering taking his own life. He confided in me and told me that he felt like a failure and was not sure about his place in life anymore; he said he was better dead than alive. He even felt like God and his family had turned against him, making him feel all alone and with no one to turn to.
His story really touched my heart, because as young adults we ask ourselves why we are here and what our purpose in life is. Some of us, like my friend, lose hope and resort to substance abuse and even worse, committing suicide. We spend most of our lives searching for answers that we assume will come to us if we look for them based on our own understanding. But what if the answers to all lifes questions were right in front of us all the time? Do we choose not to see or hear them? Like all roller-coasters, life has its ups and downs and twists and turns. Young people tend to end up in a really dark place and it seems like there is no way out.
But there is a way out; there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. That light is Jesus Christ. He says: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28).
Pray to God and let him guide you to that light shining down that long seemingly endless tunnel of darkness. No matter how hard life gets, He is always there by your side holding your hand. And surely I will be with you always to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20). God never allows us to be tested beyond what we can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13). All you need to do is trust him to help you pass that test. Surround yourself with people that love and care for you; be thankful for all he has blessed you with. The gift of life is too precious to think negative and destructive thoughts. Life is an uphill battle but in the end it is all worth it.
I am not an expert in this subject called life; I have my own questions about it and what my purpose on earth is, but God has blessed me with a voice (or a pen) to tell you not to give up on yourself or him. To tell you that he is there guiding you every step of the way. I hope this article reaches out to you and gives you that glimmer of hope that no matter how tough things get, God is with you always.
By the way, my friend is getting along fine. He realises God has a purpose for him, and hes much encouraged by the support of family and friends.
